I finally have a home

We moved last weekend. And my entire family (18 including Martin and me) also came up for vacation. It ended up being really great because they all helped carry things from our "temporary condo" to this place. And my ma and sisters helped me get the house looking decent by the time they left. And them being here gave us several breaks in between heavy lifting/"Where do you want this to go?" Oy, that'll wear you out fast.

I've been spending every spare minute I have putting the place in order. But it's just really nice to finally have somewhere to feel at home. I didn't realize how big of a deal this was until I was without a place for a month. It wasn't horrible by any means, but it's just really cozy to have a place.

Don't get any grand illusions of us living it up here yet though. We are still using our black folding chairs for living room furniture. The progress however, is that the furniture is actually ordered (as of yesterday) now. Sheesh. I'm terrible with making decisions.

This weekend is Bliss Fest. A local music festival that is "for hippies and druggies". It's a big thing up here that goes down right on the shores of Lake Michigan. I'm trying to talk Martin into going all day Saturday. I'll update if I was successful or not.

Picture is my sister Athena and nephew Xavier's crocs.

I'm so glad you are in a place to call home! So is this it? The condo you were waiting to have finished?

I'm also very jealous of your new furniture. We have furniture from Nathan's parents that is probably as old as my high school graduation and really not my taste. I've been trying to decorate around it for years and finally it's not just ugly but wearing out as well. I've been promised a leather couch for years also and it keeps getting taken away from me with some random house repair, etc. Soon, though, within the year I hope, I'll be able to get new furniture as well. Can you post a picture of what you ordered? Is it online? It's very exciting. I bet you really feel like an adult to order new furniture! :) We have a kid and I expect I'll feel more like an adult after ordering furniture than I do right now! ha ha! ;)

Kelli,

Thanks. Yeah, this is the place. I really like it too. I think moving to a condo first was a great idea for us because we aren't the best with ideas of settling. (I think we still think we're 25...) I'll post pictures of it as soon as the cardboard boxes are gone.

And I'm SO excited about the furniture. Like you, we were using sectional pieces that my sister gave us for free. They worked great for our first 7 years but I have been dying to buy "my" furniture. It's from Crate&Barrel: a chair and a half with storage ottoman, a loveseat, and a chaise. I'll definitely post pics when it's here. Yeah, furniture is a big deal, right?!

hey girl! congrats on moving in and the help from your family--that's awesome! We're contemplating moving to a new house in a few months, but it would only be for a year, if that, so I'm not super into that idea. and having to move 1500 sq. ft of our junk ourselves is less than appealing! We'll see!

And man, I remember buying NEW bedroom furniture with Erik in 2000--we felt like SUCH adults, it was awesome! And then when we bought our own couch and huge chair 5 years later, it was like we had truly arrived! lol Now, 3 yrs later, they are trashed and I'm running out of "flipping" options on the cushions. We were wondering why we bought new stuff with tiny kids. ugh.

Thanks for the hair complement! I've accepted the fact that I can't have my hair long enough to put in a ponytail b/c I will ALL the time and I hate HATE how I look. So it's short from now on which is funny b/c I had LONG hair all my life until 9th grade! lol People would ask me if it was my religion. hmmm...

hugs and high fives on moving in! yay! OH and so cool all three of us hooking up on the SAME comment page! hahahahahaha

Kristen - Thanks. It's a good feeling. There are few websites I can waste more time on than ole Crate&Barrel

Emily - I know, the roomies are kind of back together (except we're all over the country...) I bet you've got moving down to a science by now, eh?

Thanks for the Bday message! Very sweet. Also, thanks for the hospitality to all in your new space. We all LOVED it!!! They were two of the longest days I've had in a long time. What was the sun only gone for 5 hrs out of the day. Crazy. We did some many great things in the two days it felt like a week. Thanks!!!

Oh man, Crate and Barrel. Just got a new trashcan from them on Wednesday! It's those less than $50 items that we tend to purchase from them. :) Maybe furniture in the future? Speaking of, I just rearranged our living room furniture after spending way too much time on Apartment Therapy and Domino websites today. BUT, I think the arrangement is finally perfect! It only took a year to get it right! ;) Hope you're making lots of happy memories in your new place. :) BTW, we need to have a visit sometime soon. I wonder how far away you are from us now. hmmmm....

Brandy - It was so much fun for us to have everyone up. Glad you had a good time, I was hoping everyone would.

Kelli - we should definitely try to meet up. We can't be that far away...
